Women in Geosynthetics: Connecting, Supporting and Growing Together

Women across the geosynthetics industry bring diverse experiences and perspectives from engineering, manufacturing, installation, research, consulting, education, and other areas of the profession. This interactive roundtable will provide an opportunity for women and industry allies to connect, share experiences, and discuss ways to strengthen the Women in Geosynthetics (WIG) community. Rather than a traditional presentation, the session will encourage open conversation among participants about professional development, mentorship, leadership, networking, career advancement, and increasing engagement within the geosynthetics industry. The goal of the roundtable is for participants to leave with new connections, practical ideas, and a stronger sense of community while helping shape future Women in Geosynthetics initiatives.

Short Course

Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment of Geosynthetic Applications

The short course will address the growing importance of sustainable practices in geotechnical engineering by offering an overview of sustainability concepts and the application of life cycle assessment in geotechnical engineering. Topics covered include principles of sustainability, the scope of sustainable geotechnics, considerations for sustainability in geosynthetic applications, state-of-the-art methodologies for sustainability assessment in geotechnical engineering, and the principles and application of LCA to geo-systems with geosynthetics. The course will feature a practical demonstration focusing on the application of LCA to selected geo-systems with geosynthetics. The demonstration will guide participants through step-by-step LCA calculations, and participants will use provided spreadsheet templates to follow the demonstration in real time and engage in hands-on learning.
